Produced by Helios Film, a small production company in Velletri, Italy, founded in 1908. L'Inferno was released in a hurry to beat the colossal Milano Film production of the same name. Thus, the film was able to arrive in theaters three months earlier and take advantage of the great expectation created among the public. It was shown for the first time at the Teatro Mercadante in Naples on March 10, 1911. The film is inspired by the first "cantica" of Dante's Divine Comedy, of which it represents some episodes.
